a portfolio?

I have an interview Wednesday for a programming job, and for the first time ever I've been asked to bring a sample of my work. Happily, they want a sample of my programming work, as I can't really imagine what I would bring for show-and-tell if I were demonstrating project management or business analyst skills (though the visual is amusing). So, since I couldn't find a single piece of code I've written outside of the website, I'm going to take the code to the software that does my blog. Who knew that all those goofy late night programming sessions would ever come in handy?

Wouldn't it be great to roll into an interview with a dozen or so spreadsheets and a taped together series of 50 legal sized sheets of paper from MS Project in hand? That all said, do you not remember the insanity that was the Unival interview... with the strange IQ test and spreadsheet generation? We should have viewed that as a sign and run like hell then.

I love the idea of any use of 50 taped together spreadsheets! I even love when I'm actually using them! It still feels absurd.

Apparently I gave good interview, as I'll be headed in again next week, and, just as with those halcyon days of Unival, I'll apparently be skills testing - a live programming demonstration, apparently. That should be... painful...

And speaking of painful, I had forgotten the Unival interview - good times, those were!

Good luck with the interview next week! Keep us posted! Any more details about what the job is or will be?

The job is with AETN, which (as near as I can tell) is the PBS broadcaster for the state. It sounds like a pretty serious generalist job - a lot of random technologies were mentioned in the interview. As I was leaving the interview they gave me a business card, and I commented that one of the selling points for the job was getting the PBS logo on my business card....
