This guide is just now getting started - please excuse the dust...

Paris

  • The Blue Elephant - This place has the most amazing decor, full of a virtual rainforest, a waterfall, and although it is a large restaurant, the many levels (and the plants) give it a cozy feel. The food is quite good, and the Thai wine was a treat. One caveot - they will do any meal vegetarian, but their implementation of the 'vegetarian option' appears to be simply taking the meat out, rather than creating something new.

Avignon

Eating in Avignon is truly a treat, and I don't think we ate at any places that weren't quite good. That said, obviously, the tourist trap places in the main square probably aren't as good as the places we went. A little exploring goes a long way in Avignon.
  • Woolloomooloo - A Lonely Planet guide recommendation, so you know they speak English (poor souls!) The decor was the draw, at least at first - an eclectic mix of warehouse and bar and attic, everything here is mix-and-match. But then we got the food, and it was all OK. I had lamb with a plum sauce, and it was divine. Sasha had no problem finding a vegetarian option, which was also well done. The only downside, of course, is that it can be crowded with Lonely Planet readers....

  • La Fourchette - This one is also listed in Lonely Planet, and in the Guide Rouge as well. It has a very traditional feeling decor, and the food was also for the most part traditional, although truly excellent. We both had the salmon, which was excellent, if 'unexciting', as Sasha put it.

London

  • Malabar Junction - Apparently this place has a separate place to prepare their vegetarian dishes, and the attention to detail shows in their food. We make it a point to seek this place out every time we make it to London.
    107 Great Russell Street, London. Tel: +44 (0)20 7 5805230
  • The Blue Elephant - we haven't eaten at the one in London, though we've been past it several times. If it is as interesting as the one in Paris, it is well worth a visit!

Windsor

  • The Honest Lawyer - This place has a very comfortable sports-bar feel, with tasty food that probably isn't very good for you and friendly wait-staff. Prices are generally around $10 plus drinks.

This is very much a work in progress, and I'm open to suggestions, comments, etc. If you have a place you've eaten at, and you think other people should know about it, drop me a line. I'd also be interested in hearing if you have a different opinion about any of these places, and most importantly if you find any of them have closed (always a problem with good restaurants).
