mini-retirement

The Consumerist pointed me to an article which puts a name on a habit I've had for the past decade or so: the mini-retirement. Basically that's when you quit your job, dump your house, and go travel for a year or so. The idea is to do your retirement when you're young, rather than when you're too old to enjoy it.

Hmmm...makes me wish that I was a renter. I like the concept of taking a mini-retirement and moving things into storage during that time. Finding someone to rent my place while I'm gone would be a bit more complicated... But I like the idea!

Considering that you're just now buying a house, I think it'll be a while before your next mini-retirement... ;)  (That is, unless, you have Sasha be the sole income earner and you take time off to write.  ^^)

Or teach, as Jason seems inclined to have me do....

Didn't you do that after you graduated - when you went to japan?  What a great idea though, too bad they don't let you pull out of your 401k for such an idea....
