saving energy

The Sierra Club has some quick tips for designing (or re-designing) an energy efficient home. One of the more interesting ideas they pointed out were tubular skylights, which look to be an amazingly good buy for lighting rooms in your average residential house.

Those are some awesome suggestions...provided you actually own your own home. Somehow I doubt that my landlord would be interested in letting me renovate the place I am renting to the extent discussed. It is a pity too, much of this place looks like it was decked out in the 60s or 70s.

Yes, my mom has those, and they are great! She doesn't need to turn on the light at all most of the time, though she says it feels like you are leaving the lights on all the time. They provide an amazing amount of light. -lisa

We already have plans to install these in 2 bedrooms of the house. We know several people who have them and they're wonderful. Not only do they provide light, it's a natural light--so much better than a bulb.

I'll be interested to hear how the install goes - if these are as easy as they seem, I don't know why everyone wouldn't have them!
