Weird:

Another human foot encased in a running shoe has been found on the shores of British Columbia in Canada, the second this week and the sixth within a year.

I wonder if this is a bad case of "foot in mouth" disease. >:}

Ouch.

The bit that threw me was the part of the article where they comment that "In the first four cases, police have no evidence that the feet were severed." How the hell does a foot get separated from a person without severing? Isn't that sort of the definition of sever?

Ah.  You are confused because you did not read this article, where they explain that the feet appear to have detached due to decomposition, not severing.  There are theories about the running shoes retarding decomposition, protecting the feet from fishies, and also allowing them to float more easily.  But, as the article notes, "It is likely the case will remain a mystery for some time. As one investigator put it this week, this is not CSI..."

What a strange thing to do. It seems a number of families with missing relatives got their hopes raised by the new discovery, only to have them crushed. I also find it odd that this took so long to reveal. Oh well - that's the 24 hour news cycle - people get the story out as quickly as possible, and then fact check.
